Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to discuss rollout of National Broadband Plan

14 Sep 2021, 14:30

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 September, to hear the latest update on the rollout of the National Broadband Plan.

The meeting at 12.30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House will hear from representatives of National Broadband Ireland (NBI): Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, NBI Infrastructure; T J Malone, Chief Executive Officer, NBI Deployment; and Tara Collins, Chief Marketing Officer, NBI.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kieran O’Donnell said: “The rollout of the National Broadband Plan is one of the largest and most expensive contracts in the history of the State. It is also of critical importance to the development of economic and community life across rural and near urban areas in Ireland. The Committee met with the National Broadband Ireland last November for an update on the rollout, and we have also received a number of written updates in recent months.

“We look forward to hearing from the NBI representatives the current position on the development and rollout of this infrastructure, including the impact Covid19 has had on this rollout. Following previous engagements with NBI, the Committee is also particularly interested in hearing the latest plans for ‘gap intervention areas’.”

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas.ie.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
