29 Sep 2021, 16:55

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 30 September, with the Ombudsman, Peter Tyndall, to consider his 2018, 2019 and 2020 reports, and related matters.

The meeting at 12.30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House will also consider petitions from members of the public.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Martin Browne said: “This will be Mr Tyndall’s last public engagement as Ombudsman ahead of his retirement after eight years in the role in Ireland, having previously served six years as Ombudsman in Wales. He has appeared many times before the Committee and Members welcome this opportunity to meet with him one last time to discuss his most recent reports, the issues he has highlighted and related matters.

“The Committee will also discuss a number of petitions from members of the public, including a request that authorities prioritise urgent environmental issues and enforce actions against non-adherence to environmental laws and regulations, a call for a ban on all fossil fuel and hybrid vehicles advertising on all Irish media, and a petition on the examinations system for foreign trained doctors.”

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions is a standing Committee of the Houses of the Oireachtas and has 11 Members, seven from the Dáil and four from the Seanad.

The meeting in the Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
