4 Oct 2021, 15:50

The Joint Committee on Children, Disability, Equality, Integration and Youth will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 5 October, to consider a number of matters, including regulation and funding issues in the childcare sector, and the Adoptee Voices - Adoptee Identity Rights report.

The meeting at 3pm will be broadcast from Committee Room 4 of Leinster House and will be split into three sessions.

·       Session 1: Regulation and funding issues facing workers in the Early Years Sector (EYS) – Representatives from SIPTU.

·       Session 2: Changes in the funding structures under the National Childcare Scheme (NCS) and its impact on funding of afterschool services around the country – Representatives from Dublin 8 Afterschool Alliance.

·       Session 3: Consideration of report entitled Adoptee Voices - Adoptee Identity Rights – Representatives from Aitheantas.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kathleen Funchion said: “Like many areas in our society, the childcare sector has come under pressure due to funding constraints. In our first two sessions, the Committee looks forward to examining the issues facing workers in the EYS with SIPTU, followed by the funding structure changes under the NCS with the Dublin 8 Afterschool Alliance, particularly the impact on afterschool services. The final session will then consider with Aitheantas the matters raised in the Adoptee Voices - Adoptee Identity Rights report.”

The Joint Committee on Children, Disability, Equality, Integration and Youth has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas.ie.
