Traveller Committee continues housing and accommodation access debate

The Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community will resume its discussion on access to housing and accommodation, including culturally appropriate accommodation with The Cena Culturally Appropriate Homes and Simon Communities of Ireland at tomorrow’s meeting, 1:30 pm, Thursday 7 October 2021.

The meeting at 1:30 pm will be broadcast from Committee Room 4 of Leinster House.

Representatives will include:

  • Cena Culturally Appropriate Homes - Ms Bridgie Casey, Home Acquisition Manager and Mr Brian Dillon, Project Development Officer
  • Simon Communities of Ireland - Mr Noel Daly, General Manager, North West Simon and Ms Andrea Fitzgerald, Services Manager, Galway Simon

Leas-Chathaoirleach of the Committee Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív said: “This is the sixth meeting in a series of debates about housing, access to housing and culturally appropriate accommodation. The Committee looks forward to continuing the debate on the issues surrounding Traveller Housing and Accommodation.”

The Leas-Chathaoirleach added: “The conversation around housing and accommodation, especially culturally appropriate, and Traveller specific accommodation is an extremely important one and is one of the key issues affecting the Traveller Community. The availability and access to housing and accommodation; facilities and services within culturally appropriate accommodation; and high levels of homelessness within the Traveller Community are topics we will discuss with representatives from the Simon Communities of Ireland and Cena Culturally Appropriate Homes at our meeting.

The Committee looks forward to continuing this important debate with our guests, continuing the debate on this topic and the wider discussion around the issues.”

The Joint Committee on Key issues affecting the Traveller Community has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
