12 Oct 2021, 16:00

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet the Head of the European Commission Representation in Ireland Barbara Nolan tomorrow, Wednesday 13 October in Leinster House to discuss the State of the Union 2021 address.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 at 9.30am. Barbara Nolan will be joined by the Deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in Ireland Jonathan Claridge.

Committee Cathaoirleach Joe McHugh TD said: “European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen delivered the State of Union 2021 address to the plenary session of the European Parliament last month; taking stock of the current year and looking ahead to priorities for the future.

“The pandemic response, New Pact on Migration and Asylum, taxation, a European Defence Union, European Green Deal, taxation and the establishment of a European Year for Youth were some of the matters raised.

“The Committee welcomes tomorrow’s engagement to discuss matters highlighted by President von der Leyen and to ask about current relations with the UK and where the implementation of the Northern Ireland Protocol sits as an EU priority.”
