Committee of Public Accounts to examine Tusla’s 2020 Financial Statements

20 Oct 2021, 16:30

The Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 21 October, to examine the 2020 Financial Statements of Tusla – Child and Family Agency.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be joined by the C&AG, Seamus McCarthy, and will be split into two sessions.

The morning session, from 9.30am-12.30pm, will be with officials from Tusla led by Chief Executive Bernard Gloster to examine the 2020 Financial Statements of Tusla.

During the afternoon session, from 1.30pm-4.30pm, the Committee will consider the Minutes of its meeting of 14 October 2021, Accounts and Statements, Correspondence, its Work Programme and any other business.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Stanley said: “The Child and Family Agency, also known as Tusla, was established in 2014 through the amalgamation of a number of child welfare, family and education support services and agencies. Its primary functions include supporting the development, welfare, and protection of children, offering care and protection for children whose parents are unable to do so, and maintaining and developing the services needed to deliver supports to children and families.

“Tusla’s expenditure in 2020 was €841 million and the areas the Committee would like to examine include grants to outside agencies (including charity, voluntary and community organisations) and related governance matters, non-compliant procurement last year totalling €6.3m, and the rising cost of legal claims relating to Tusla which are being by handled by the State Claims Agency.

“Members would also like to discuss costs related to the recent cyber-attack on the HSE, which provides ICT and other services for Tusla, and the agency’s ongoing reliance on the HSE for these services. The Committee looks forward to discuss these and related matters with Mr Gloster and his colleagues.”
