Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action to discuss Carbon Budgets with Climate Change Advisory Council

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 7 December, for a discussion on Carbon Budgets with Marie Donnelly, Chairperson of the Climate Change Advisory Council (CCAC).

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 3pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Leddin said: “Carbon Budgets are expressed as a total amount of emissions that can occur over a specific time period and the Climate Change Advisory Council is proposing a Carbon Budget programme for the five-year periods to 2025 and to 2030.

“The Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act requires that the CCAC propose all of economy Carbon Budgets to the Minister of Environment Climate and Communications. The Committee looks forward to discussing this work with Ms Donnelly and the CCAC as part of its consideration examine of the Carbon Budgets provided for in the legislation.”

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
