Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach to discuss insurance and issues relating to National Lottery

14 Dec 2021, 16:30

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 December, for separate engagements on insurance matters and issues relating to the National Lottery.

The meeting at 1.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will first discuss insurance issues with representatives of AIG, FBD and RSA.

This will be followed by a discussion on the National Lottery with representatives of Premier Lotteries Ireland and the Regulator of the National Lottery.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy John McGuinness said: “This meeting with the insurance companies continues our ongoing engagement with the sector. The Committee would like to resume discussions on issues relating to business interruption insurance for businesses that closed during the pandemic due to public health restrictions, following on from previous engagements earlier this year on this and related matters.

“In our second engagement issues relating to the National Lottery, the Committee will discuss concerns raised by our colleague, Deputy Bernard Durkan, that the Lotto jackpot has not been won since June. There has also been considerable public discussion about why the jackpot has been capped at €19 million since September and not continued to roll over and increase as each draw since failed to produce a winner. The Committee looks forward to hearing answers to these concerns from both Premier Lotteries and the Regulator.”

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach has 13 Members, nine from the Dáil and four from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
