Health Committee to meet NPHET for update on easing of Covid-19 restrictions

1 Feb 2022, 18:00

The Joint Committee on Health will receive an update on the response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the easing of restrictions from members of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) tomorrow, Wednesday February 2nd.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House from 9:30am -12-30pm.

Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Professor Philip Nolan, Chair of the Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group (NPHET) will appear remotely before the Committee tomorrow for the discussion.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Seán Crowe said:

“The lifting of virtually all lockdown restrictions has given the country a welcome boost. As we reach the two year anniversary of Covid-19 reaching our shores, tomorrow is an opportune time to meet with NPHET and hear the latest projections on the spread of the Omicron variant, uptake of the booster vaccines and contingency plans for another variant.”

“The Covid-19 pandemic is not over and the Omicron variant is unlikely to be the final variant of concern – it is crucial that we reflect on the lessons of the past two years in order to chart a better path ahead for the health service.”
