Foreign Affairs Committee to hear from NGOs regarding education in low and middle income countries and from Minister for Foreign Affairs on Review of Workplace Arrangements in Iveagh House

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence will meet on Tuesday, 8 February at 3pm.

• Engagement with Representatives from NGOs to discuss education in developing countries. Representatives from Dochas, Misean Cara, Plan International and Concern Worldwide, Jane Ann McKenna, Eamonn Casey, Fr Frank Bird, Laban Onisimus, Lorenza Quadrini, Ahmed Ali Dirshe 

• Engagement with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney TD and Secretary General, Joe Hackett in respect of the Review of the Workplace Arrangements in Iveagh House on 17 June 2020

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Charlie Flanagan said: “The Committee welcomes the opportunity to hear from Dóchas, Misean Cara, Plan International and Concern Worldwide in respect of the provision of education for children and young people living in marginalized communities around the world."

"Quality education for young people in low and middle income countries, those displaced by conflict and refugees, has been greatly impacted by the Covid pandemic and the Committee looks forward to hearing how Ireland, Europe and the rest of the world can provide support to ensure that education is provided in emergency and conflict settings, and for those most in need."

“Minister Coveney and the Secretary General Joe Hackett will also meet with the Committee to discuss the review undertaken into the workplace arrangements in place in Iveagh House on 17th June 2020."

“The review, published last week authored by Secretary General Hackett found that a serious breach of Covid-19 social distancing rules had taken place. The Committee welcomes the opportunity to discuss the circumstances surrounding the event.”
