Sub-Committee on Mental Health to resume its pre-legislative scrutiny of the general scheme of the Mental Health (Amendment) Bill 2021

The Sub-Committee on Mental Health will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 8 March to resume its pre-legislative scrutiny of the general scheme of the Mental Health (Amendment) Bill 2021 at 10am in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House. 

The purpose of the Bill is to amend the Mental Health Act 2001 to give effect to the recommendations of an Expert Group Review on mental health legislation.

The Committee will hear from the following representatives:

·       Dr Fiona Morrissey, Disability Law Researcher, Adjunct lecturer Centre for Disability Law & Policy, NUI Galway, GMIT lecturer, WHO QualityRights Trainer, Mental Health Tribunal Member, member of Disabled Academics and Artists.

·       Ms. Rosy Wilson, Poet, Retired adult education lecturer, Mental Health Advocate, Member of Recovery Experts by Experience.

·       Dr. Liz Brosnan, Academic, Survivor researcher, Mental health advocate, Member of Recovery Experts by Experience.

·       Dr. Charles O'Mahony, Senior Lecturer, Former Head of School, School of Law, NUI Galway.

·       Mr Harry Gibjels, Retired Lecturer UCC, Co-ordinator of the Critical Voices Network Ireland

·       Ms. Fiona Anderson, Recovery Experts by Experience

·       Ms. Jennifer Hough, Family member

·       Ms. Deirdre Lillis, Mental Health Advocate

The members of the Sub-Committee are: Cathaoirleach Senator Frances Black, Deputies Neasa Hourigan, Gino Kenny, John Lahart, Mark Ward and Senators Aisling Dolan, Martin Conway and Annie Hoey.
