Committee to discuss a national strategy for the development of the Islands with representatives from the Department of Rural and Community Development

The Joint Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands will meet tomorrow, Wednesday March 6th, with representatives of the Department of Rural and Community Development to discuss the matter of a national strategy for the development of the Islands.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000, between 09:30 and12:30.

The following Departmental representatives are due to attend: 

Bairbre Nic Aongusa – Assistant Secretary, Community Development
Aodán Mac An Mhíle – Principal Officer, Islands
Brid Ní Chonghaile, Assistant Principal Officer, Islands
Colm Mac Donncha Assistant Principal Officer, Islands

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Denis Naughten said: “We welcome the opportunity to hear from representatives of the Department of Rural and Community Development regarding the future and development of the Islands. The Department is currently undertaking the development of an Islands Policy – some 23 years since the last policy on Islands was published.”
