Joint Committee on Health to meet to discuss issues that may be relevant to the Review of the operation of the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy Act) 2018

26 Apr 2022, 14:00

The Joint Committee on Health will meet to discuss issues that may be relevant to the Review of the operation of the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy Act) 2018 at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 27 April.

The meeting will be broadcast from Committee Room 2 at 9:30am and will include a discussion with representatives from the Irish Family Planning Association and the National Women’s Council of Ireland.

A review clause was included in the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018 to monitor the operation of the legislation in practice and the delivery of services in the area. Last year, Minister Donnelly announced that the review would involve three strands namely research with service users, service providers and a public consultation.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Seán Crowe said “There are problems with accessing services, and the upcoming review of this important legislation is welcome. The review is an opportunity to assess how the current system can be improved. Tomorrow’s meeting will allow us to hear the insights and experiences of the Irish Family Planning Association and the National Women’s Council of Ireland in this regard.

The Joint Committee on Health has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

You can view the meeting in Committee Room 2 on Oireachtas TV.
