Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine to hold separate discussions on equine welfare and development of the hemp industry in Ireland

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet this evening for separate discussions on horse welfare and development of the hemp industry in Ireland.

The meeting at 5.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be split into two sessions to hear from:

5.30pm-6.30pm – Equine Welfare, with representatives from My Lovely Horse Rescue.

6.30pm-8.30pm – Development of the Hemp Sector in Ireland, with officials from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and representatives of Teagasc.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “Cruelty to animals, including starvation and other abuses, is an issue of very serious concern to the Committee and Members welcome this opportunity to discuss equine welfare and related matters with the representatives of My Lovely Horse Rescue.

“In our second session, the Committee looks forward to hearing the views of the Department officials and the representatives of Teagasc on the development of the hemp sector and a regulated hemp industry in Ireland.”

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
