Joint Committee on International Surrogacy to discuss issues facing couples entering international surrogacy, achieving parental recognition and the provision of citizenship rights and travel documents

The Joint Committee on International Surrogacy chaired by Deputy Jennifer Whitmore will meet tomorrow, Thursday April 28th, in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House at 9:30am.

The meeting will focus on 2 aspects of International Surrogacy with the first discussion focusing on the particular issues faced by same sex couples, both male and female, entering international surrogacy arrangements and achieving parental recognition with submissions from Dr Lydia Bracken, Assistant Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the Faculty of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences in University of Limerick and representatives from Irish Gay Dads.

The second part of the meeting will look at the provision of citizenship rights and travel documents for children born to international surrogacy including existing children and verification of documents issued in other countries with officials from the Departments of Justice and Foreign Affairs.
