Taoiseach Michéal Martin to discuss the work of the Shared Island Unit with the Good Friday Committee

The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement will meet on Thursday, April 28th to discuss the work of the Shared Island Unit with An Taoiseach Michéal Martin.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 11:30-13:00.

The Shared Island Unit was established in September 2020 in the Department of an Taoiseach.  

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Fergus O’Dowd said: “The Programme for Government outlines the Government’s commitment to working will all communities on the island to build consensus around a shared future underpinned by the Good Friday Agreement.”

  “The Government’s priorities under the shared island initiative are to enable priority delivery of all island infrastructure units, to work in partnership with the Executive, through the North-South Ministerial Council and with the British Government, to address strategic challenges facing the island; enable priority delivery of all-island infrastructure commitments and foster new investment and development opportunities on a North-South basis.”  

“The Shared Island Fund of €500 million has been allocated for capital investments in North South infrastructure projects. We look forward to receiving an update on the progress of this funding”   “We look forward to discussing the progress the Shared Island Unit has made to date and its plans for the future.”
