Joint Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth supports the people of Ukraine and in particular the Ukrainian children impacted by the war

9 May 2022, 10:00

As the war in Ukraine enters its third month of fighting, the Joint Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth chaired by Deputy Kathleen Funchion TD wishes to take an opportunity to convey its support for the people of Ukraine and particularly the children impacted by this war.

Members acknowledge Europe Day, held on the 09th of May every year, which celebrates peace and unity in Europe, and Victory Day as a Public Holiday in Ukraine to mark victory over Nazism in World War II. As Oireachtas Parliamentary Committee Members and as Europeans we stand united with the people and especially the children of Ukraine to offer all the support we can.  Members acknowledge that the 9th of May this year will be a solemn day for Ukrainians who are displaced from their homes internally within Ukraine, and are refugees of war in other countries including Ireland, as a result of the unlawful and unprovoked war by Russia.

Deputy Funchion said “Ireland has been welcoming Ukrainian families including unaccompanied children since the invasion in February began and we will continue to provide all the support and necessary resources for them. Irish people have an international reputation for always providing charity to those who need it most and the children of Ukraine who come here will be cared for by Ireland in this very traumatic time.”

The Joint Committee on Children, Disability, Equality, Integration & Youth has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
