Gender Equality Committee to discuss Norms and Stereotypes and Education with the Irish Second-Level Students Union

The Joint Committee on Gender Equality will meet on Thursday May 12th to resume its discussion on the recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality regarding Norms & Stereotypes and Education.

The Joint Committee on Gender Equality will meet on Thursday May 12th to resume its discussion on the recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality regarding Norms & Stereotypes and Education.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House between 09:00-12:00.

Representatives from The Irish Second-Level Students Union (ISSU) and David Byrne of Technological University Dublin will appear before the meeting.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Ivana Bacik said: “This week the Committee is focusing on the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Citizens’ Assembly report in second-level education.”

"In particular, the Committee will be hearing tomorrow about the benefits of co-educational schooling in tackling gender stereotyping in education; and will be considering how the Relationships and Sexuality Education curriculum might be updated to ensure adequate recognition of gendered power dynamics."
