The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet this evening to discuss the Weighing of Fisheries Products with representatives from the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA).
Speaking ahead of the meeting at 5.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “Sea fishing is a critical part of Ireland’s food production sector. The seafood economy is worth more than €1 billion annually and supports 16,000 jobs in our coastal communities.
“The SFPA is responsible for the regulation and oversight of the sea-fisheries and seafood sectors, which is essential to the development of Ireland’s seafood sector and ensuring that our shared marine resources are sustainable for future generations. The Committee looks forward to discussing matters around the weighing of fish produce, including concerns raised by bodies representing our fishing industry and communities, with the representatives of the SFPA.”
The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
