Foreign Affairs Committee to meet with the Implementation Oversight Group for the Commission on the Defence Forces

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence will meet on Tuesday, October 15th with representatives from the Implementation Oversight Group for the Commission on the Defence Forces and officials from the Department of Defence.

The meeting will take place from 3:15 pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House. The following representatives are due to appear:

  • Julie Sinnamon, Chair of the Implementation Oversight Group for the Commission on the Defence Forces
  • Officials from Dept. of Defence:  Assistant Secretary General Eamon Murtagh, Brian Molloy Assistant Secretary General and Principal Officer David Byrne 

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Charlie Flanagan said:

“We welcome the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Implementation Oversight Group for the Commission on the Defence Forces and the Department of Defence.,

"In December 2020, the Government authorised the establishment of the Commission with the goal of covering the structures and size of the Defence Forces, defence capabilities, HR polices and strategies, the Reserve Defence Force, governance and high level command and control in the Defence Forces and pay structures."  

"With an update to the Detailed Implementation Plan currently underway and scheduled for publication in November, 2024. the Committee looks forward to hearing from the Group on the recommendations that are being implemented and the work carried out by Department of Defence on the recommendations."
