The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet today, Thursday, 17th October 2024 with representatives from Cyber Ireland for pre-legislative scrutiny of the National Cyber Security Bill 2024 at 1:30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House.
Earlier this year the Government published its draft bill that transposes an EU directive on cyber-security into Irish law. The proposed legislation puts the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) on a statutory footing and sets out the mandate. The National Cyber Security Bill 2024 designates national competent authorities (NCAs) to oversee implementation and enforcement of the EU directive within relevant sectors.
Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Alan Farrell TD said “Our Committee looks forward to welcoming Cyber Ireland. We will take this opportunity to discuss with them what they feel could be implemented to improve Ireland’s current cyber security. We will also welcome their sector specific perspectives on the challenges that Ireland faces into the future.”
