Joint Committee on Transport meets for engagement on Driving Test and NCT Delays

10 Jun 2025, 13:20

The Joint Committee on Transport will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 11th June 2025 to discuss Driving Test and NCT Delays at 9:30am in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House with:

·       Mr. Sam Waide, Chief Executive Officer, Road Safety Authority

·       Ms Alison Coleman, Director of People Development and Culture, Road Safety Authority

·       Mr. Brendan Walsh, Chief Operations Officer, Road Safety Authority

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Murphy TD said “Our Committee meets to discuss Driving Test and National Car Test delays. We welcome representatives from the Road Safety Authority to tomorrow’s meeting.

“The RSA recently launched their Action Plan to tackle nationwide driving test waiting times. In their Plan, they aim to bring the average waiting time down from 27 weeks to 10 weeks by early September 2025. This response comes amid unprecedented demand for driving tests, with figures from the RSA themselves showing 100,000 in the backlog / waiting to be tested.

“We will look to those attending tomorrow to detail the key measures contained and how an appraisal on the current status is being conducted for those people waiting for a driving test.”

The Committee meeting can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
