Joint Committee on Health meets to discuss the treatment of children with dysplasia and scoliosis and related matters

18 Jun 2025, 18:15

The Joint Committee on Health chaired by Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Pádraig Rice meets tomorrow, Thursday, 19th June 2025 at 9:30am in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House.

The meeting will discuss the treatment of children with dysplasia and scoliosis and related matters with:

  • Children’s Health Ireland
  • Department of Health
  • Health Service Executive

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Pádraig Rice said “Tomorrow’s meeting will focus on the treatment of children with dysplasia and scoliosis and related matters. The recent emergence of information on the treatment of children and surgical practices within CHI have been shocking. Our meeting with CHI, the Department and the HSE will allow us to get detailed information on these very serious shortcomings, how they arose, and how remedial measures for the children affected are being put in place.

“We will look to those attending tomorrow to outline the impact of these failures on children and their families and where we go from here. We will seek assurances that all necessary procedures, oversights and safeguards are now in place to ensure that the children affected are being fully looked after, and that there will be no recurrence of the shortcomings.
