7 Oct 2025, 15:07

The Joint Committee on Transport will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 8th October 2025 for engagement on all aspects of road safety at 3:40pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House.

The meeting will hear from representatives from:
•    Road Safety Authority
•    Department of Transport
•    PARC
•    An Garda Síochána

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Murphy TD said “Safety on Irish roads continues to be a major issue and this week is Irish Road safety Week (6th – 12th October). The Committee fully supports the Road Safety Authority’s appeal to road-users to get involved in the ‘national drive to save lives’ and find ways to be better, safer road-users.

"In the meeting tomorrow we will look at the initiatives introduced to reduce road deaths and serious injuries. Amongst the topics and issues we will look at include expanding speed management measures like speed cameras and speed limits. Safe road infrastructure, and the further promotion of road safety agencies like the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and the Medical Bureau of Road Safety for awareness and education campaigns.

"We will look at enforcement measures in place and hear from An Garda Síochána on what they feel works on Irish roads and what they would implement in order to address the issues experienced on the roads of Ireland. We will look to all those attending tomorrow to detail what they currently experience on Irish roads in terms of safety in order to make our roads safer for all users."

The Committee meeting can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
