The Joint Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy will meet today, Wednesday, 8th October 2025 for engagement with the Transport Sector on Climate Change Targets 2026-2030 at 12:30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House.
The meeting will hear from representatives from:
• National Transport Authority
• Irish Road Haulage Association
• Fuels for Ireland
• The Society of the Irish Motor Industry
Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí TD said “The Committee continues looking at climate targets for various sectors in our meetings and we welcome representatives from the Transport Sector. We published a comprehensive Report this week containing our observations on the Carbon Budgets 2031-2040 proposed by the Climate Change Advisory Council. The Report can be read here and has been informed by engagements with the Climate Change Advisory Council; the Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment; and academics with expertise in the field.
“Ambitious climate targets have been set by Government to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030. We will use today’s meeting to get more insight from those attending on initiatives like the promotion of sustainable modes of transport, investing in green infrastructure and the incentivisation of low-emission vehicles to enhance resilience across the transport network.”
The Committee meeting can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
