21 Apr 2026, 13:49

The Joint Committee on Transport will meet on Wednesday, 22nd March 2026, at 10:15am in Committee Room 4, Leinster House, for engagement on road safety. This meeting continues our focused programme of Committee work in the area and comes against the backdrop of the continuous increase in road fatalities.

The Committee will hear from representatives of:
•    Irish Road Victims Association
•    Mr. Richard Stables, Information and Support Manager, Headway
•    Ms. Sonya Walsh , Head of Rehabilitation Services and Principal Counselling and Clinical Neuropsychologist, Headway
Cathaoirleach of the Joint Committee on Transport, Deputy Michael Murphy TD, said: “Our work tomorrow again focuses on the vital issue of road safety. By continuing to draw attention to the sheer scale of loss of life on our roads, we aim to be able to make specific, targeted recommendations. Every loss leaves families and communities dealing with the impact and the Committee reiterates its intentions to provide leadership by identifying concrete actions.
“These engagements continue to be aimed at our ultimate goal of producing a practical Committee report containing clear recommendations on road safety actions and making strong recommendations to Government and relevant agencies.”
