The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, and Taoiseach will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 8 July, to resume discussions on the consumer impact on the emergence of Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) companies and their operations providing credit within the Irish market.
The meeting at 3:30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will hear from representatives from Humm Group UK & Ireland and Klarna Group.
Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Mairéad Farrell said: “Last month the Committee began our examination of the growth of BNPL credit in Ireland and the operation of these companies in the Irish market with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
“We will now hear from two of the companies who offer BNPL loans here, Humm and Klarna, and look forward to discussing a wide range of matters, including fees and penalties, the risk that vulnerable customers fall into debt, the impact on consumers and current and future regulation of the sector.”
The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, and Taoiseach has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
