Organising the business of the House is a complex task. Find out more about how the scheduling of business comes about.
Business Committee
The Business Committee meets weekly, usually on a Thursday morning, to consider the business for the coming week, and the arrangements for the taking of that business. The Whips of parties or groups are usually members of the Business Committee.
Following its weekly meeting, the Business Committee issues a schedule for the coming week, known as the report of the Business Committee.
Order of Business
The Order of Business on a Tuesday involves putting of the business arrangements to the House by the Chair for decision. Towards the end of the Order of Business, if there is time available, Members may ask the Taoiseach or other members of the Government questions on policy or legislation. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, there is no Order of Business, but time is made available for Members to ask the Taoiseach or other members of the Government questions on policy or legislation.
The final schedule is published to the website and is always available on the homepage. Details of business are available on the Dáil business website.
A daily email detailing parliamentary business is also issued each day with details of the business.
