23 Jun 1976 - same—would prevent any decision being taken subsequently by a Government as to how and at what price this gas...We are dealing with a Bill to set up a Gas Board initially to handle the Kinsale gas field in a case...where we know where the gas is going and the price it will go at....There may be other finds in different places and circumstances and to confine that board to selling gas...to the Gas Board.

7 Jul 1976 - I assure him the board, as set up under this Bill, will be independent of the Minister....Up to now oil and gas were not industries associated with Ireland....Those who wanted to study oil and gas would have to go abroad....other companies, as the Minister for Industry and Commerce advances with his legislation, and when this Bill...which produced the gas.

23 Jun 1976 - The Minister said last week and again today—and there is provision for it in this Bill—that the question...Lower cost energy will mean more users of gas in the future....Gas Company....Dublin gas users have been suffering as a result of the prices being charged for gas and a further increase...It was an emergency forced on the Dublin Gas Company.

23 Jun 1976 - Barry Deputy Moore and Deputy Barrett have referred to the use of gas inside the State but in fact their...amendment refers to the export of natural gas, that it shall not be done without liquefication....I have a certain amount of sympathy for this idea but as regards any conditions for the export of gas...It may be right, as Deputy Moore and Deputy Barrett say, that the way to serve the Dublin Gas Company...is to liquefy the gas and transport it by tanker.

7 Jul 1976 - Kilbride I do not intend to detain the House very long in discussing this Bill which should be welcomed...If you have gas off the Head of Kinsale you could reasonably assume that there will be gas finds along...We should be able to find gas, or have a reasonable chance of finding gas, in sufficient amounts to meet...The people who will find employment as a result of a gas find will be our own people....We are likely to have a rosy future from discoveries of gas and oil.

23 Jun 1976 - Russell I would like to add my voice to that of Senator Lenihan on the Gas Order....Obviously the Dublin Gas Company requires substantially increased powers to borrow money....Bill at present going through the Dáil, and I do not know whether it is the wish of the Leas-Chathaoirleach...to allow discussion today on the merits or otherwise of utilising natural gas for the production of...Bill when it comes before this House.

23 Jun 1976 - We do not envisage the likelihood of piping gas to Britain because Britain has ample gas of her own....Though all the gas finds are in the North Sea, the British gas grid has now extended as far as South...the gas from our southern waters to the French coast....In addition, there may be major gas finds off the west coast....This means it will not be necessary to land the gas from far out at sea.

23 Jun 1976 - We would have wished that the Minister would have come in here on a Bill such as this, in a debate on...There is provision in some section of the Bill for the carrying out of an extensive detailed study but...we are hoping to have some of that gas ashore within two years....It is proposed in the Bill to ask the board to initiate such studies but in discussing the Bill we should...is piped direct into existing gas undertakings and municipal gas plants.

7 Jul 1976 - Barry) I should like to thank the House for the unanimously favourable reception given to this Bill....Every speaker, from Senator Lenihan to Senator Martin who has just concluded, welcomed the Bill coming...That has nothing to do with the Bill, as they admitted, because a Government decision was taken outside...the confines of this Bill....The primary purpose of the Bill is to deal with the national gas board but, hopefully, in years to come
