13 Nov 2019 - For me, this amendment was to prevent such a thing....We also never had an Education (Student and Parent Charter) Bill....I feel there is room to begin to have more equality of input between students, parents and boards....now and Report Stage, would the Minister consider thinking about how we could put measures into the Bill...Are there other less blunt ways of doing this than through my amendment?

18 Dec 2019 - Deputy Joe McHugh I am trying to be consistent regarding the motivation behind the student and parent...There are guidelines within the Bill to ensure that schools are obliged to make information on the moneys...That would achieve the goals which the Senator claims are the motivation behind the amendment which was...There will be an obligation under the student and parent charter for schools to publish information on...done in a way that will allay the Senator's fears, I am open to continuing that conversation when the Bill

18 Dec 2019 - With regard to amendment No. 6, no ombudsman would intervene too early in a matter....I do not foresee a position where parents or children would be confused about the role of national and...A student or parent would only look outside the local procedures if they struggled to operate within...Possible confusion is not an adequate reason to not push this amendment....I am willing to withdraw amendment No. 4 but I will be pressing amendment No. 6.

13 Nov 2019 - I am confident the specific reference in the Bill to a "student council (where one has been established...prepare its student and parent charter....This is specifically reflected in the large number of provisions in the Bill....I am confident the provisions in the Bill will allow that student voice to be heard....That is why I will unfortunately not be accepting amendment No. 15.

13 Nov 2019 - Amendment No. 5 was discussed during the debate on the Bill last week....Its content now forms part of the Bill, having been voted through last week....In particular, I need to reflect on the additional administrative burden the amendment places on schools...From a technical drafting point of view, I also need to consider whether the amendment is inserted in...the most appropriate section of the Bill and whether it may need to included in a separate section.
