Fianna Fáil will be supporting this Bill....We are supporting this Bill because it promotes overall Government transparency and will ensure that...the Irish Government releases records in tandem with Northern Ireland and the UK....As the Minister has already stated, because Ireland does not release Government records until 30 years...We are in total agreement with and supportive of this Bill.

The process to decide on the questions for the new census form began in October 2017, when the CSO launched...a public consultation on the content for the next census....religious groups, academic and research organisations, the social partners and the Northern Ireland Statistics...These messages will be stored securely with the census forms for 100 years, when they will be released...to the public, in line with section 35 of the Statistics Act 1993.

It currently operates under the provisions of the Statistics Acts, 1926 and 1946....The information is regularly disseminated in releases and publications, and increasingly in electronic...The Bill defines the term "Officer of Statistics" to include, inter alia, all staff of the CSO....This is not possible under the 1926 Act which provides that individual data, even if non-identifiable...100 years after the date of the relevant census.
