Professor Hillery I join in the welcome for this Bill....The Bill before us is to provide CTT with money, the fuel by which the organisation works, and so enable...On the industrial front there is hope, especially in the area of the electronics industry....and native Irish industries supplying goods and services....My final point relates to staffing levels in CTT which give cause for serious concern.

The Minister should consider very carefully whether there are not ways in which the industrial development...I think Senator Hawkins will agree with me when I say that the establishment of suitable industries,...A good deal of the work of the Industrial Development Authority is very much like what had to be done...in the near future, the authority were asked to examine any question referred to it by the Minister relating...Therefore, I suggest that it would be a great mistake to put an amendment of this kind in the Bill.

It relates to something that has gone untaxed for a long time....Issues relating to the gambling control Bill have been well rehearsed and are well overdue....facing a year of significant pressure on revenue not to mention the issue of public pay and impending industrial...Other areas related to gambling and which are not subject to taxation should be taxed.

Garda powers in relation to the detection or investigation of crime remain unaffected by this Bill....That Bill only dealt with doormen, who are a small subsection of the security industry....The Government did not accept the Bill because it felt the whole industry needed to be dealt with, so...we prepared our own Bill dealing with the entire ambit of the multimillion euro industry....We cannot, however, tackle these issues in a Bill dealing with the private security industry.
