We should remember a farm is no good unless a farmer is able to work it....I salute the staff, management, nursing home owners and their families for the sterling work they have...There is a spanking new, pristine nursing home only up the road from the Minister of State, Deputy Butler...He went into Cork University Hospital, and he and three other patients on the ward got Covid, and he...Oxygen which was so badly needed was stolen from the nursing homes.

I will take from the Bill to expedite the review....We need to get a supply of permanent homes for people to live in which are affordable and social and...I am quite happy not to oppose the Bill on Second Stage but to work with other Members and with the Simon...For me there are matters in the Bill on which we can work, adding to the work that has already been done...We have had two years of Covid-19.

We have moved on from rolling our eyes and saying a person is fond of a pint to being able to confront...I hosted an information evening for parents in my home town of Skerries....That evening brought home to me how much support there is in my community for the legislation....I acknowledge the work of Deputy Corcoran Kennedy in that regard....The evidence for such hard work is the broad and cross-party support for the Bill.

Minister has failed to give the House a broader outfit line or picture of what is proposed, of the work...Since then a Bill was introduced in 1931 and under various Acts that were passed from 1931 to 1939 further...regardless of whether they are Irish speakers or not or whether Irish is the spoken language of the home...I take it from a statement made on the Committee Stage of this Bill in the other House that the latter...not propose to enforce any regulations regarding the Irish language being the spoken language of the home

Stanton We want to work with the Minister to produce the best possible legislation....I contend that this has been replaced by section 19 of the Bill....However, the Bill differs very much from that in its approach....I received correspondence from the Irish Council for Social Housing, as I am sure did other Members....A great deal of work needs to be done and we should work together on it.

Therefore, I am glad the Bill recognises the need to shield them from additional work...., so I am glad that is being provided for in this Bill and that they will be shielded from that....I appreciate this Bill is only for the leaving certificate year of 2021 and I genuinely, from the bottom...I hope that some of the learnings from Covid-19 and this process are taken forward into the leaving certificate...I look forward to working constructively with the Minister on this Bill.

If Covid has taught people anything it is that those who thought they would never be reliant on core...Covid has changed people's perspective on this. It is important the core payments are protected....Nursing homes have done a tremendous job but caring for people at home must be the first port of call...It is clear from the Minister's work on the budget and social protection that she understands the minutiae...and workings of each of the schemes.

Poor Law Commission's report to give widows a small pension so that they can rear their children at home...should not be passed, because they think it will retard their work....amount, practically as reasonable an amount as that paid to the industrial schools, and that their homes...It is for that reason only that I opposed this from the beginning....I believe that the principle of Senator Brady's Bill is the right one.
