High level radioactive waste is not dumped at sea, and low level solidified waste is....Somebody mentioned the Irish Sea as a location for this kind of dumping....No radioactive waste can be dumped in water less than 4,000 metres deep....The Irish Sea has not got a water level of anything like that and consequently it is not acceptable as...The discharge from Windscale does not come under this Bill.

This Bill covers all dumping, including low level radioactive waste but because the Minister for Energy...He may appoint officers to deal with radioactive substances and the dumping of such substances at sea...that might have existed as far as his jurisdiction over dumping at sea was concerned....at sea, this Bill gives him that power....I am satisfied that this Bill gives the necessary powers to deal with dumping of low level radioactive

no jurisdiction over all the seas of the world and the London Convention which has, and this Bill does...It is aimed at controlling pollution of the seas caused by dumping of harmful substances from any kind...need a permit also, in effect all dumping at sea will be controlled by this Bill irrespective of whether...in so far as our territorial seas and the seas outside them are concerned....I am confident that this Bill will deal effectively with any possible future dumping and, for that reason

The territorial limits are obviously far too small and this means that 99 per cent of the world's seas...are available for dumping of dangerous substances....seas but close to our coast....There is no provision in this Bill to prosecute people who might dump even within our three-mile territorial...In reality, the Bill is doing a certain amount of good but, overall, the dumping at sea problem remains

It really does not add a great deal to the Bill....I regret that the Ministers has not taken steps to see that the Bill is strengthened to such a degree...that the real dangers of dumping at sea could be eliminated.
