Kathleen Lynch I move amendment No. 33: In page 11, line 23, to delete “is” and substitute “and the Europol...The Long Title to the Bill provides that the Bill will, among other matters, repeal the Europol Act 1997...However, the 1997 Act was itself amended by the Europol (Amendment) Act 2006....clearing the Statute Book, the Parliamentary Counsel has advised that a reference to the repeal of the Europol...(Amendment) Act 2006 be included in the Bill.

For that reason, this Bill is significantly more detailed than the existing Europol Act....Nonetheless, the Bill will, in effect, maintain the status quo ....It is generally highly regarded, most recently in a 2012 report following an evaluation of the implementation...decision, prior to the passing of the Bill....I commend the Bill to the House.

Deputy Seán Kyne I welcome the opportunity to speak on this Bill. I also welcome the Minister....This Bill will give effect to the 2009 Europe Council decision....Furthermore, this Bill facilitates an Irish law, the Council decision to lower the threshold for Europol...The Bill will see the continuation of Ireland's co-operation with Europol through the information exchanged...between our national Europol unit and Garda HQ and Europol HQ at The Hague.

The primary purpose of the Europol Bill 2012 is to give effect to the 2009 EU Council decision establishing...Europol....When the Bill is enacted it will repeal and replace the Act....For that reason the Bill is significantly more detailed than the Europol Act 1997....I support the Bill and commend the Minister.
