Vol. S No. 6

FINANCE DEPARTMENT ESTIMATE

said the major part of the estimate for £7,300 belonged to the New York Office. It included a provision for staff to work the new loan. Here at home there were other items in the estimate really not connected with Finance Department, such as Trustees' Secretary, Accountant General and Assistant. These accounted for salaries £943. Finance Department itself cost £700 and Minister's salary £250.

asked for particulars of the staff engaged in the offices.

asked would it be possible to have the scrip for the loan already subscribed issued before the new loan was started; there were a number of questions lately as to when this scrip would be available.

replied that with regard to the scrip for the loan it was found impossible to get it printed in Ireland. There was an objection to getting it done elsewhere. Moreover there were no names of subscribers supplied yet for a large proportion of the loan.

In reply to the Deputy for Cork (L. de Róiste) he said there was provision made for staff work £650, work connected with other Departments and outside activities, salaries £943. Payment of Minister £250. Stationery £150. Rent, etc., £257. Contingencies, etc. £500. Of course if there was a new loan floated that would not be one-twentieth of what would be required. The sub-department of New York had been put down as £4,300 but that was only very tentative.

thought it desirable the Deputies should get a list of the number of persons employed by the Dáil and the range of salaries.

said that information was available from his books and could be had on application.
