Vol. 1 No. 28

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

To ask the Minister for Local Government whether any decision has been made respecting the proposal that the Elections for Municipal Councils, due to take place in January, should be postponed, and, if so, whether a date has been fixed when the Elections will take place?

It is proposed to introduce legislation as soon as possible after the coming into operation of the Constitution enabling the Minister for Local Government to postpone for a period not exceeding six months the Municipal elections due to take place in January next.

Is the Minister aware that there is a widespread feeling that Municipal elections should be held in the summer months, and would he fix a month accordingly.

I am aware there is a feeling that the elections should be held in the summer months.
