CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - POSTMEN'S UNIFORM.

To ask the Postmaster-General whether it would be possible to get brass buttons for postmen's uniforms made in Ireland instead of in London.

Exhaustive enquiries have already been made, and the matter is still a subject of negotiation with the Dublin Industrial Development Association, as to the possibility of procuring in Ireland brass buttons for postmen's uniforms, but, as the quotations so far received have been approximately three times higher than the price at which the buttons can be procured elsewhere, a contract could not justifiably be placed in Ireland. Investigations are still proceeding, and it is hoped to be able to place before Irish manufacturers suggestions which will enable them to turn out a suitable button at a reasonable price.
