Vol. 2 No. 22

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CIVIL SERVANTS' BONUS.

To ask the Minister for Finance if he will say what percentage of bonus is being used for pensionable purposes and for calculating gratuity, in the cases of Civil Servants retiring under Article 10 of the Treaty, and what fractional part of such percentage is being given; whether the supplemental pension is a fluctuating one in the case of such Civil Servants; and whether he will agree to regard part of a year served as a year in calculating such pensions and gratuities.

The Civil Service Committee (Compensation) has advised the Government that in the case of awards of compensation under Article 10 of the Treaty cost of living bonus should be treated in the same way as it is treated for ordinary pension awards. I am sending to the Deputy a memorandum showing the method of calculation adopted.

The Superannuation Acts specifically provide that only complete years of service can be reckoned for purposes of pension.
