To ask the Minister for Local Government if he will take steps to provide legislation that will enable local Councils to clear derelict sites within their areas and, where owners of such sites fail to clear them within a reasonable period, he will see that power is granted to the Councils to collect the cost of clearing sites from the owner.

I am not aware of representations having been made by local Councils, except in one case, as to the necessity or propriety of such legislation, but the matter will be considered.
