Vol. 2 No. 40

GRIFFITH SETTLEMENT BILL. MONEY RESOLUTION.

I move the following:—

"That it is expedient that authority be granted for the charge on and payment out of the Central Fund or the growing produce thereof of the sums necessary to provide an annuity not exceeding one thousand pounds under any Bill of the present session to make suitable provision for the widow, children, and sister of the late President Arthur Griffith in consideration of his eminent services to the Nation."

I second the motion. In seconding it, I would like to mention one matter which probably will have been very carefully considered; that is, whether it might not, even now, be advisable to change the £1,000 into £1,100 so as to allow a little extra on the sister's share, which, standing at £100, is rather a low figure, especially in view of the present cost of living. I would just throw out that suggestion. I am in entire agreement with the substance of the Motion.

Motion put and agreed to.
