Vol. 2 No. 40

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - ATHENRY HOUSING CONDITIONS.

To ask the Minister for Local Government if the local district representatives in Athenry (namely, the District Councillors) made applications on three different occasions for a number of houses to be erected in the town of Athenry; what was the number of houses asked for in each scheme, and can he state the reason why the scheme was not sanctioned? Further, to ask the Minister if he is aware that there are three and four families living in single houses in Athenry in a most unsanitary condition, owing to the inadequate supply of houses; and if any applications were received for grants for building houses under the Act of 1919; and, if so, what sums were granted?

No representations have been made to the Ministry as to housing requirements under the Labourers' Acts in Athenry, nor have any complaints been received.

The Housing (Additional Powers) Act 1919, did not apply to Athenry.

The local Inspector has been asked to report into housing conditions there.

Could the Minister say how soon the Inspector will report because the matter is urgent?

I could not say.
