Vol. 4 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - KELLS (CO. MEATH) ARRESTS.

asked the Minister for Defence whether military assisted in the arrest of Michael and Matthew M`Inerney, Cornacross, Kells, who were apprehended some five or six weeks ago; what charge, if any, has been, or is to be, preferred against these men; whether the Minister is aware that strong representations have been made by the priests and people of this district for the release of these men, on the ground that it is a case of mistaken identity, and to ask if these prisoners will now be released forthwith.

Michael and Matthew Mcinerney were arrested by military in conjunction with the Civic Guard on suspicion of being concerned in malicious damage to the property of Mr. Bond, Ballinlough. Matthew was released yesterday, and the case of Michael is under consideration.

Can the Minister say whether there is any difference between the two McInerneys?

I can only infer that there is. One has, however, been dealt with. The other is being considered.
