Vol. 6 No. 38

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ARRESTED OR INTERNED PUBLIC SERVANTS.

asked the President if he can state whether the Committee recently set up to investigate the cases of public servants who were arrested or interned since June, 1922, and were released without charge or trial, has yet furnished its report, and, if not, and in view of the fact that some of the individuals concerned have been deprived of payment for over twelve months, whether he will urge that such cases should be dealt with as soon as possible.

The Committee has not yet furnished its report. It is pursuing its enquiries, and is making every effort to have its Report ready as soon as possible. I might say that one of the members was, unfortunately, ill for the last week or ten days—possibly a fortnight. To some extent that has interfered with the work of the investigation, but I understand it is hoped that within the next fortnight a very good amount of work will be taken in hands.

Mr. O'CONNELL

Would it be possible to report on individual cases according as they are dealt with, and before the whole lot is finished with?

The total number is between three and four hundred, and I would not like to answer that question definitely without inquiry.
