Vol. 7 No. 1

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - WESTMEATH ARREARS OF RENT CLAIM.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state why proceedings were taken against Mr. Joseph Wyse, Military Road, Mullingar, in March, 1924, for compounded arrears of rent, notwithstanding the fact that a notification appeared in the Press giving an extension until the 15th of April, 1924, to all persons owing such arrears, further if he will state the present position of this man's farm under the Land Act of 1923, and if he will be facilitated by the Land Commission in purchasing his holding.

Mr. HOGAN

In this case the Receivable Orders issued to the tenant required the lodgment by him of his first year's compounded arrears of rent and payment in lieu of rent on or before the 17th October, 1923, and 28th November, 1923, respectively, and the tenant having made default the solicitor for the Land Commission issued a writ against him on the 6th March, and the sums due were paid on the 13th idem. The notice, which subsequently appeared in the Press at the end of March, was a warning to tenants who had not paid that they were liable to have proceedings taken against them, and stated that the Banks would not receive payments after the 15th April. The holding will, in due course, vest automatically in the Land Commission under the Act, and will be dealt with by them as provided therein.
