Vol. 7 No. 2

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CORK SCHOOL OF MUSIC.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the late General Collins, when Minister for Finance of Dáil Eireann, promised to the Committee of the Cork School of Music, and actually included in his estimates, a contribution of £1,425 towards the cost of publication of Irish Traditional Music, that this promise was confirmed by the then Minister for Education, Micheál O hAodha, who sent a cheque to the School of Music Committee for £425 as the first portion of the amount, and undertook to send the balance of the money as required, that the present Minister for Education has signified his approval of the claim to payment of the balance, that the Cork School of Music Committee, relying upon the fulfilment of the promise made, has committed itself to an expenditure of £692 1s. 8d. in respect of the publication of the Irish Traditional Music approved of, and if he will now fulfil the promise made by the late General Collins by making a payment to the Cork School of Music Committee of £267 1s. 8d., being the amount in excess of the £425 already paid, for which the Committee has rendered itself liable.

I understand that a grant not exceeding £1,425 from Dáil funds was conditionally approved in this case, and that a payment of £425 was actually made. I am at present in communication with the Minister for Education with a view to arranging for the payment of £267 1s. 8d., mentioned in the question, on satisfactory evidence being furnished that liabilities up to this limit have been, in fact, incurred, and that satisfactory work has been done.
