Vol. 7 No. 11

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - KILLARNEY PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence whether an application has been received from Mrs. Fitzgerald, Ballinderreen, Kilcolgan, Co. Galway, for pension in respect of her son, Volunteer Cecil Fitzgerald, who was shot on service at Killarney, Co. Kerry, on August 17th, 1922, and whether, in view of the applicant's circumstances, a decision in this case can be expedited.

A pension is not issuable to Mrs. Fitzgerald under the provisions of the Army Pensions Act, 1923, inasmuch as she was not wholly dependent on her deceased son. A weekly allowance of 14/- a week was paid to her up to the 31st March last pending a decision as to the total sum that would be awarded to her as a gratuity under the Act mentioned. That decision is about to be made.
