Vol. 7 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - OFFALY COMPENSATION CLAIM.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that Mr. Clinch, Solicitor, lodged a claim for compensation, amounting to £1,200, on August 10th, 1921, with the Secretary of the Offaly County Council, for the burning and destruction of dwellinghouse and out-offices, the property of Mrs. O'Rourke, Horseleap, Moate, which premises were destroyed one day prior to the Truce; whether Mr. Wallace, Solicitor, who is now acting for claimant, has addressed several applications for payment to the Shaw Commission without result, and whether, as Mrs. O'Rourke is without a home and in poor circumstances, he will expedite settlement in this case.

As no award in favour of the person named by the Deputy has been received in the Compensation Section of the Ministry, the question of payment does not arise. Enquiry has, however, been made at the offices of the Compensation (Ireland) Commission, and it is understood that a claim which appears to be identical with that stated to have been lodged in August, 1921, is at present under investigation by the Commission.
