Vol. 7 No. 20

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - BOUND VOLUMES OF STATUTES.

MAOLMHUIRE MAC EOCHADHA

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that complaints are made by the members of the legal profession of the inconvenience arising from the failure of the Stationery Office to publish bound volumes of the Statutes passed in each session of the Oireachtas; and whether he will at once have arrangements made to remove the inconvenience in question by having such bound volumes published in respect of the past sessions and all future sessions as soon as conveniently can be.

Arrangements were made some time ago for the publication in bound volumes of the enactments of Dáil Eireann and of the Oireachtas (commencing from the opening of the first Dáil Eireann), to be continued by the publication of an annual volume of the legislation of the Oireachtas.

If there is any blame in the matter mentioned it cannot be laid at the door of the Stationery Office as, when the volumes are published, it has been decided that indexes to the statutes will be included. The work on these indexes has been put in hand and it is hoped that the material will be handed over to the Stationery Office shortly. It is confidently anticipated that any delay which has occurred in connection with the volumes of the Dáil and other statutes will not recur.

Will the Minister be in a position to tell us, when we are dealing with the Stationery Office Estimates, what kind of policy they are adopting with regard to the prices of these publications?
