Vol. 7 No. 25

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MILITARY BARRACKS FOR HOUSING ACCOMMODATION.

asked the President if it is the intention of the Government to hand over Keogh Military Barracks, or any of the other military quarters in Dublin to the Dublin Housing Authorities with a view to coping with the very abnormal demand for housing accommodation, and if such is intended, if he will also take into consideration the insufficient accommodation for school children in the city so that suitable buildings will be reserved for school purposes.

It has been decided to hand over Keogh Barracks for the purpose of a housing scheme. A proposal for the accommodation of the working classes therein is under consideration by the Commissioners for the County Borough of Dublin. It will be open to the promoters of the scheme to lease or sell portion of the buildings, if suitable, for the purpose of providing any necessary school accommodation.

As regards other barracks in Dublin, I am not at present in a position to say definitely whether any of them will be released from military occupation.
